Computer Sciences Personal Statement

For myself, computers represent not just the present limit of human imagination. Indeed, throughout my life, I have used technology to challenge the boundaries of my own imagination. Thus, I see technology as a means of inventing and communicating solutions that have been heretofore unaddressed. A bachelor's degree from the university's computer sciences program would give me the most up-to-date knowledge while still allowing me to focus on and develop my own interests. Here organization will prove to be a crucial skill, and one that can be most effectively obtained through instructed coursework. Where the internet can provide information and training, such a plethora is itself overwhelming. A guided hand along the digital landscape will thus allow me to investigate and understand my field as it changes.

Applying these teachings after I graduate will rely on the information I obtain early on. At first, the computer sciences field appears to be one with many self-taught and disciplined individuals. In fact, the reasoning for this may be in part due to the fact that mentors for such specializations did not exist in years past. Today, a degree program like the path to the university's computer sciences bachelor's certificate will enable skills that allow me to pursue my passion, web design, while enhancing skills elsewhere. Having sound theoretical foundations will allow me to approach new programming languages with greater ease. Since new languages are developed and standardized all the time (as with the recent HTML5 update), organizational skills and theoretical foundations will prove essential to navigating an increasingly complex digital terrain with new languages.

The University of Bridgeport thus proves to be the clear choice for individuals like myself. Bridgeport's relative proximity to New York City keeps it a locale ripe with fresh ideas. In a world that is increasingly dominated by new and changing technology, web design will likely prove to be a somewhat steady career. Integrating my passion for web design with other aspects of computer technology, however, will likely usher in the special kind of imagination-defying effects that change existing limitations. The school of engineering's computer sciences program boasts great minds like Dr. Jeongkyu Lee, whose approaches to mining social media are at the forefront of a developing industry. Going forward, I believe my career would be changed for the better through my exposure to the University of Bridgeport.

As the landscape shifts, my tools will always need to be sharpened. After graduating, maintaining my skills relies on my own diligence. It is in my belief that the University of Bridgeport's Computer Sciences bachelor's degree will grant me the ability to hone my own tools in an always-fluctuating atmosphere.
