Guide students to write a letter to Santa Claus about what they want for Christmas. They must explain why they deserve these gifts using past and future tenses and have a group discussion with peers about different kinds of gifts. Students write opinion articles where they introduce the topic, state their ideas about it and explain why they hold them, and finish with some sense of closure. They will recount at least two past events in detail using temporal words. They will be receptive to input from adults and peers as they refine the text and add constructive details as needed. Finally, they will use digital literacy tools to complete the writing (Engage NY, 26).
