The five words that define me as a person are as follows: empathetic, optimist, funny, goal-oriented, and mellow.

I am always empathetic to someone’s story or situation, especially in times when people are most judgmental. I can consider different perspectives with an understanding and acceptance that two people can look at the same situation or hear the same story and reach completely different conclusions as to why it occurred. My mind welcomes all things positive. While it is impossible to avoid all negative thoughts and feelings, they are not allowed to reside in my mind for too long. They enter my mind and leave in similar haste. Although I am a realist, I truly believe there is a silver lining in most situations regardless of how hopeless, dire, or bad the outlook may seem. I also seek out the best in people and will give them the benefit of the doubt before casting any suspicions.

I believe laughter is a natural healer, which makes me appreciate a great joke. A good, hearty laugh can relieve even the most grieving of hearts, even if it is temporary. I follow this philosophy in life and tend to look for the benefits of humor in everything. I do not like complacency. I am always striving for some type of goal. It does not have to be anything major— it can be as mundane as the desire to cook a new meal— but it must be a challenge that keeps my mind sharp and my motivation levels high.

I tend to be more of a laid-back person. Like any human being, I do have moments of anxiety, but I employ mindfulness interventions and do not allow them to control me. I am a firm believer that one must allow things to transpire how they are intended. You cannot force the flow of life and to live a relatively stress-free (and happier) life, you must learn how to ride through its ebbs and surges.
