Case Study: Zander and Tasha are master’s students in clinical mental health counseling. Tasha and Zander became friends and are interning with Dr. Supervisor at his clinic under his supervision. Tasha trusts Zander so much that she – Tells Zander she had an abuse problem to pills and alcohol in the past but never attended addiction counseling. Instead, she treated herself and went to AA meetings when she felt the need. Tells Zander that she volunteered to make a Facebook page for Dr. Supervisor’s patients to better communicate with him. Tells Zander that she and Dr. Supervisor are having a sexual relationship. Tasha tells Zander that after the semester is over, Dr. Supervisor and she will be getting engaged. Tasha tells Zander she is not concerned about any conflict of interest, but Zander is getting worried for Tasha. She has been missing more classes. She has been missing client appointments. Zander witnessed Tasha meeting Dr. Supervisor at a bar, several times and Zander’s caseload has increased since Tasha has started missing appointments. Tasha is relying on involvement with Dr. Supervisor to get her master’s degree without going to class. She is relying on friendship to take up the slack for her by seeing her patients and taking class notes for her. She is relying on Zander to keep her confidences. She is hurting other students in the program who notice her absences and more workload. She is hurting herself by relapsing into addiction once again.
