In an increasingly less religious society, today it is possible for marriage and paternity to survive with some compromise. Public attitude towards sex is irrational. Monogamous template most commonly found in our culture is based on a dated ethical approach. Before industrialization, if a woman cheated on her husband, he was considered a fool for not being able to adhere to his gender role within the family structure.

Sin is a Preventative Measure

Sin was also an excellent preventative measure against adultery, for fear of eternal damnation.
