This article speaks of Henri Christophe when he retrieved the north and how he proclaimed himself as king. This article covers the biggest parts of Henry Christophe’s life. It starts with his childhood, speaking on how he learned everything from experience. He started his life born into a slave family. This information will be very benedictional to the final paper because it shows the journey of the king, showcasing how he came from the lowest of lows and rose to power. The second part of the article covers Christophe’s time at war, fighting for Haiti’s freedom. Later, the article covers how he became the king in the north of Haiti after the south rebelled and refused to live under his style of life. The basis of this article is about the enslavement of Africans at Saint Domingue. It speaks about how the Africans revolted against Europe and their condition under France’s slavery, which is in turn how they came to their nation name Haiti (the land of mountains). In 1802 Christophe became François-Dominique Toussaint L'Ouverture’s general officer. He fought with L’Ouverture in the north against the French, Spanish, and British troops.

It also discusses how in 1806 Christophe with Haitian general Alexandre Pétion toppled Jean Jacques Dessalines, which resulted in a short-lived civil war between the two men. At this point Haiti was divided into two parts, Christophe claiming the north, and Pétion leading the south. Once Christophe received the north, he is remembered for his policy of construction and economic development in Haiti.
