Digital media and global technological communication is a very important aspect of how a business is run today. Working with media companies does not simply mean allowing your business and relations to be known across states and across the country, but also around the world – global expansion of digital is crucial. Do-Right Dental Co. must do its best to expand globally through the services provided by XYZ Advertising Company, and it will have a positive aspect of the company.

The Winter Olympics’ hype has long started, and the news stories will be rolling in on the hour about all of its most important aspects. The sports, the politics, the country itself and their feelings about the Olympics; in this case, Sochi, Russia is hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics. This news is coming directly from Russia; how are people in the United States reading about it only minutes after it's been published? The answer is simple: digital media.

The news story in question is entitled “Putin arrives in Sochi ahead of Games, Austrians threatened,” written by two CNN World reporters (Smith-Spark and Walsh), marked that the Austrian team received a threatening letter in German that is suspected to be sent from Russia. The main focus of the story is two Austrian Olympic athletes, and it is almost amazing that the story can be accessed from Russia to anyone else in the world in record time. This gives new meaning to the phenomenon of globalization.

The internet is a big player in the spread of world news. CNN, the Cable News Network, is widely used for those searching for news from across and the world. Digital media is the biggest reason that this is possible. The 2002 article, “Prophesying the Future of Digital Technology” says that “the personal computing revolution is about gaining control through customizability and personalization, not losing it” (Goldsborough 11). Those attending the Winter Olympics in Russia do not have to be journalists with CNN to report events and news. Anyone person can post to Twitter or Facebook to convey messages about the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia and this will be seen by all of their friends, all over the world, and that is the value of digital media representation. The spread of information is truly amazing.

In the 2004 article “Discovery Communications Launches Global Lifestyle Business Initiative,” the example of the Discovery Channel Network is a great way to illustrate how media has grown, and how it will continue to grow:

“Discovery Lifestyle Networks will consist of three core networks, each targeting a different demographic group and specializing in specific lifestyle programming subject areas. At launch, the portfolio networks will have a distribution of 54 million cumulative subscribers in 81 countries and will be available in 15 languages” (“Discovery”).

This Network is able to broadcast far and wide, and in several languages, and this is globalization. It is good for a business, no matter how small, because it allows the company to be broadcasting and gain the recognition that they need and deserve.

It is important for the founders and managers at Do-Right Dental to realize the importance of digital media in this day and age. Information can be so easy translated and transmitted between states, countries; information can be transported from one side of the world to the next in a matter of minutes. Do-Right should work with XYZ Advertising Company because they will be able to launch themselves into a potentially worldwide business.
