Marketing MBA Program: Scholarship Essay

I was raised by common parents who cannot afford to support me through school. I struggle to pay bills and manage tuition while seeking to accomplish my dreams. Family members believe in me and support my dreams despite their ability to help support them financially. Scholarship money not only helps me to attend school, but it also allows me to educate myself so that I can create a better life for my family. Receiving this scholarship will allow me to focus on my contribution to McIntire University without worrying about college affordability. In spite of, or perhaps because of my low economic position, I have made a special effort to overcome financial stereotypes by excelling academically. I don’t have much, but I understand that education is more valuable than money.

As a child with a family of little means, I was constantly reminded of the lack of resources available, I am smart, I am capable, and I am exceptional! My parents instilled tenacity in me and I refuse to let financial set-backs and challenges hold me back from my purpose in life. As a result, when opportunities are not available, I have learned to create them. For example, after recognizing the need for business training in my university, a team and I developed a business school program to teach and develop students professionally. I was elected president as a result of my tenacity and leadership skills, proving that I will not be deterred by lack of resources or challenges! I helped to found the first chapter of Global China in Taipei, and was awarded the Silver Award in the Student Entrepreneurs Competition from Peking University in 2012. My TOEFL is 106 and my GRE score 323+3.5. These scores allowed me to enter college ranked 30th out of 900,000 people. My dedication to academics has allowed me to maintain high scores because I recognize that while I cannot always control outside factors, I can control my ability to focus and study. As a result of being raised by family of little means, I have made it my life’s mission to excel through academics, proving to myself and others that the path to success is education! I will do everything in my power to use education as a platform to follow my dreams.

I am inspired and excited to contribute my personal experiences and diverse background to the MBA program at McIntire University. I implore you to consider my ability to overcome challenges and my academic and leadership experiences. I have proven that I am a tenacious leader, with a strong passion and purpose in life. I would love to continue to accomplish my dreams and attend with McIntire University with the help of a scholarship. What I lack in finances, I more than make up in inspiration, leadership, and dedication! I would be humbled to have the opportunity to contribute these talents to McIntire University within a Marketing MBA program.
