Chickenpox is a communicable disease which is highly contagious. The disease is an infection caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus. Although the disease is not very dangerous for most it can be uncomfortable. Symptoms last from 5-7 days and due to the contagious nature of the disease patients cannot attend school or work until the symptoms are gone. The symptoms are worse for adults and the elderly than for young children. The most common symptom of chickenpox is a rash that develops all over the body. The rash eventually turns from blisters into scabs within 5 days of the onset of the illness. Other symptoms can include flu-like symptoms such as high fever, fatigue, headaches loss of appetite and energy.
