The strength of the career plan includes an organized structure with attention to details that enable the reader to develop an understanding of the relationship between your mission, vision, and values. The best way to improve your plan begins by connecting your core values to the foreseeable challenges that you address in the body paragraphs. Give examples of how working with prison inmates highlight your core values, “...the services of an empathetic and trained nurse clinician in providing education, Pap screening, and follow-up can result in a modest improvement in the Pap screening rates of prison inmates”(Martin et al., 2004, p. 288). How do compassion and empathy help you overcome obstacles of providing high-quality care to the incarcerated population? One suggestion is that you revisit the structure and grammar of the section on values utilizing the same consistency of verb tense and punctuation that exists within the specific outcome objectives section. Integrating more transitional sentences that tie relevant sections to your core values by describing how you have overcome certain barriers will improve the overall flow of the nursing career plan and make it easier for the reader to see how your values are supported by the points you make in other sections.

Describe the barriers that advanced nurse practitioners face in Missouri. The Missouri Nurses Association states that one of its purposes is to, “provide the leading forum for contemporary nursing issues in Missouri” (Missouri Nurses Association, 2014, p. 2). You mention some of the barriers that you have experienced within your field, but are these barriers shared by your peers? What research have you conducted that defines your leadership within MONA? Refine the relationship between what qualifies you to become a leader in MONA and the steps required to bring this goal to fruition. Expand on what you have learned from problem solving and communication based on your advocacy for patients and staff. Relate these lessons to your core values and the career plan will be more succinct with your mission and vision.
