Garden Villa is a healthcare company based in Indiana. It is an American company, not a foreign business that moved locations or opened up satellites in the United States. Garden Villa writes on its website that it is dedicated to making its patients’ lives better. The company’s mission is to bring exceptional service and care to its short-term patients and long-term residents, and that begins with hiring an outstanding and high-quality staff that shares the same vision for the company’s success.
Garden Villa offers a variety of services across two locations: one in Bloomington, Indiana, and one in Bedford, Indiana. Both locations are rehabilitation centers with long-term and short-term care. They provide therapy programs that are taught by the best-trained (master level) therapists, social services, day care for adults, and both secured and advanced Alzheimer’s units. The Bloomington location also has a HydroWorx 2000 pool, which is a top-quality hydrotherapy pool designed to assist with rehab efforts. The Bedford center does not have a pool, but insteaid offers a wing for special needs and 24-hour respiratory therapy (“Our Facilities,” n.d.). A patient can choose a location based on their most critical individual needs.
To be hired at Garden Villa, an interested candidate should first fill out the employment application. A copy is posted online, but a candidate may also go to one of the company’s two locations to apply in-person. The next steps typically involve a review of the resumes by the hiring manager, who will narrow them down to the candidates who best meet experience and qualification requirements. There may be a phone screen prior to an in-person interview so the hiring manager can ask more detailed questions about experiences and previous positions to determine if the candidate is a good fit for Garden Villa. That will lead to a face-to-face interview so the hiring manager can learn more about the candidate’s aptitude and desire for the position.
A hiring decision will then be made, unless a second in-person interview is necessary, but an offer is contingent on several factors. Garden Villa is likely to call references, and will conduct a criminal background check, give a required health assessment and drug screen, and may also look into a potential employee’s driving record, depending on the position.
One of the most attractive qualities about Garden Villa is that it is a company dedicated to the two communities that it serves. According to the company, it is “committed to increasing the quality of all life within the Bloomington and Bedford communities by encouraging our staff to participate in community events” (“Commitment to the Community,” n.d.). It is a company that ensures it integrates itself into its surroundings. As an example of this, Garden Villa is a regular participant in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory Walk that is held in Bloomington, and is recognized as a leading fundraiser for this cause.
To ensure that Bloomington trains and keeps the highest quality healthcare professionals, Garden Villa teaches several local clinical classes at many different colleges in Indiana. Garden Villa helps students gain a deeper, practical understanding of topics like dietetics, healthcare administration, recreational, physical and occupational therapies, assisting with executive functions, social work, and culinary arts. Schools including Indiana University, Indiana State University, Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University (“Commitment to the Community,” n.d.) all partner with Garden Villa on this project that helps shape Indiana’s future healthcare professionals.
Garden Villa is not the only rehabilitation and healthcare center serving the Bloomington and Bedford communities. There are several different competitors. One is Petersen Health Care, which offers a variety of services, including supportive, independent and assisted living centers. Another is the Bloomington Nursing and Rehab Center, a nursing facility that provides rehabilitation treatment and long-term assisted living care. Finally, the Golden LivingCenter in Bloomington is another top competitor as it offers nursing care and therapy to help its residents with their healthcare needs, whether that be from Alzheimer’s, Dementia, or conditions requiring short or long-term care.
One Garden Villa center is located in Bloomington, Indiana, which is part of Monroe County. At the last census, Monroe County had a population of 137,974. The county’s borders include five towns: Bloomington, Ellettsville, Stinesville, Smithville and New Unionville.
Monroe County has several natural resources, most notably water. The county is home to the basins of part of the White River that runs through the state. There are also several man-made reservoirs that help supply some of the county’s residents and businesses with safe and reliable drinking water. There had been limestone quarries in the county, but those are since defunct. Part of the Hoosier National Forest also runs through Monroe, making it another primary natural resource for the region.
According to statistics from the University of Indiana, the majority of residents in Monroe County are adults who live alone (33.9%), followed by those who are married without children (24.3%), and those who are married with children (14.8%). A little more than seven percent of the county is made up of single parents. Eighty-eight-point-two-percent of the county is Caucasian, with five-point-seven-percent of residents identifying themselves as Asian, and three-point-four-percent as African-American (“Stats Indiana In-Depth”, n.d.).
Monroe County has a labor force of about 70,000 people according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Of those, more than 4,800 are unemployed, for an annual unemployment rate of six-point-nine-percent. In August of 2013, that number was slightly lower than normal at six-point-seven-percent. Monroe County has a lower annual unemployment rate than the entire state of Indiana, which is at eight-point-four-percent (“Stats Indiana In-Depth”, n.d.).
The county is governed by several different entities, including a county council that makes most of the financial decisions for the county. There are seven serving members on elected four-years terms. The current Monroe County Council members are (insert names). The county council is responsible for setting tax rates and implementing a budget.
Monroe County also has several other elected officials, such as a coroner, auditor, sheriff, and treasurer. The elected sheriff today is James Doe. The county has a board of commissioners, and its own court system as well. Finally, two other important community leaders include Congressman John Doe, a Republican from the 9th Congressional District of Indiana, and Congressman John Doe II, a Republican from the state’s 4th Congressional District.
In addition to Monroe County, Garden Villa is also part of the community of Bloomington, which is governed by Mayor John Doe III. The city has its own city council with elected members:(insert names).
