Broussard, L., Myers, R., & Lemoine, J. (2009). Preparing pediatric nurses: The role of simulation-based learning. Issues In Comprehensive Pediatric Nursing, 32(1), 4-15.

This article demonstrates how learning in a simulated setting can provide valuable skills for nurses within the pediatric setting. The article presented ways to improve the education of nurses through actual experiences in a simulated setting. The article provided concrete details which were beneficial. The article lacked in demonstrating how to build nurse leaders. However, the article could be beneficial for nurse leaders to use as they can utilize nursing experiences to assist nurses who may be lacking in certain areas. This article was relevant to me as I enjoy learning in a simulated education environment.

O'Grady, E. L., & Van Graafeiland, B. (2012). Bridging the gap in care for children through the clinical nurse leader. Pediatric Nursing, 38(3), 155-167

The article discusses the education that is required for a nurse to be an effective leader specifically in settings which care for children. The article does a good job with discussing how the education a nurse receives prepares her to be a leader however it also addresses how current education has a few gaps which leave nurses lacking in certain areas. The article does not provide ways to fix these areas in detail which is an area that is lacking. This article was relevant to me as I was interested in how the education I am receiving now will prepare me to be a leader.

Wright, J., & Wray, J. (2012). Exploring the experiences and expectations of year 1 children's nursing students. Nursing Children & Young People, 24(4), 24-28.

This study analyzed the direct experiences of nursing students in their first year of the program. The article provided useful insight as to what does and does not work when educating future nurses on effective nursing methods. A weakness in the article was that it did not address educating nurse leaders. However, the article could be used by nurse leaders to improve the ability of nurses within their unit. This article was interesting to me as the experiences discussed in the article were similar to my experiences.
